Burnout is a common experience for neurodivergent parents, particularly those juggling work, family, and societal expectations. The pressure to “have it all” often leads to overcommitting and feeling perpetually exhausted.

Why ADHD Leads to Burnout

  • Overcommitting. Impulsivity and difficulty saying no result in taking on too much.

  • All-or-nothing thinking. The need to do things perfectly can lead to paralysis or exhaustion.

  • Lack of rest. ADHD brains struggle to slow down, making true rest elusive.

Steps to Address Burnout

  • Redefine “having it all.” Focus on what truly matters to you rather than societal expectations.

  • Set boundaries. Learn to say no and prioritise self-care.

  • Seek help. Whether it’s therapy, coaching, or peer support, you don’t have to navigate burnout alone.

  • Celebrate small wins. Recognise and appreciate your efforts, no matter how small.

How Coaching Can Help

Coaching offers a space to identify the root causes of burnout and create actionable strategies tailored to your individual needs. With guidance and support, coaching helps you build sustainable routines, set boundaries, and find clarity in a way that aligns with your values and neurodivergent experiences.
